Are the supplement safe to take with my other medications?

We always recommend that you talk to your doctor about what supplements you are adding to your routine, especially if you are taking any medications. The Serotonin Mood Support should not be taken with anti-depressants, as both can raise serotonin levels. The general brain supplements of Omega3, Vitamin D, Probiotics, and Neurovite are usually well tolerated by most. But again, speak to your physician who knows your whole health history to inform her/him about any new supplements. -Coach Zoe

Thanks! That is exactly what I was wondering about the antidepressants.

I started to take two of your supplements recently: Brain & Body Power (a week ago) and Focus & Energy (two weeks ago). My questions is if these two supplements overlap.

These can both be taken together, especially for symptoms that include a combination of ADD, mood instability, mental fatigue, and memory issues. Can I ask what brain type you are?  – Coach Zoe

I am brain type 1. Thank you so much for your attention.

So with a healthy, balanced brain type 1, you may not need both, but if you are feeling the benefit of Focus and Energy as an addition, then great! – Coach Zoe

Thank you so much. I have continued to take both Brain & Body Power and Focus & Energy because I feel that Focus & Energy boosts my sharpness and productivity just like it promises. I have tried several things to boost mental energy to stay sharp for long work days that require high level of attention, such as architectural drawings, for example. This supplement is the best one I have ever had. I am so very thankful I have found it.
Next question is about overlap of omega 3 fatty acids. I used to take CLA. The brand is AbCuts (you might be familiar with it). Once I started taking Brain & Body Body, I stopped taking CLA because I didn’t think about the fact that EPA, DHA and CLA might nourish brain and body in different ways. Should I include CLA back in my supplements? I do exercise at least 3 times a week (I am 5′-8″ tall, 123 lbs, look skinny but I do have a belly from stress and sitting all day long).

There is the ideal amount of high quality omega 3 fatty acids in the Brain and Body Power for brain health, however if you are trying to reduce belly fat there is some research to suggest CLA can help with that, though it is mixed. As CLA is found in animal fats such as grass fed beef, eggs, and high fat dairy products, you really want to make sure that your source is pure and well tested so you don’t end up with a lot of extra toxins with your supplement.

For fat loss specifically, I would recommend you take a different approach, and focus on making sure to avoid inflammatory foods (sugar, gluten, dairy), that you include plenty of prebiotic and probiotic foods (high fiber vegetables and cultured foods like sauerkraut or kimchi). There is often, if not always, a connection between belly fat and food sensitivities, so that may be something to explore with an integrative practitioner.  Additionally, be sure to get in adequate water during the day (the solution to pollution is dilution). Hope that helps! Best!

Coach Zoe, thank you so much! Your answer above is very helpful and surprisingly accurate, considering that I have provided very little information. I’m a 41 y.o. female, I have been skinny with a belly since I was about 13 y.o., so the belly was there before I entered a stressed life. I experienced bad bloating after almost every meal. Between the ages of 20 and 24 I went to see doctors a few times because of it. I’ve never gotten any diagnosis, any diet or anything out of it. When I was 25 y.o. I quit milk and felt better right away. I still ate yogurt and cheese though. On the same year, I also quit red meat. Three years later, I started avoiding white flour dough and ate little bread, pizza or pasta, but still ate it. Just recently, I completely quit sugar, grains and dairy. It’s been a few months, I can’t remember exactly when because it was so easy – small changes from what I was doing before!
Anyways, I am not doing this because of the belly. I am doing this to feel more energized, I was always very tired. It is working very well – my will power has increased a lot, as well as my energy to work, work out, cook and clean. I feel like I could still improve a lot more though. Hard to believe, but eliminating foods is easy for me, but adding foods, not so easy. I bought the Brain Warrior’s Way book along with the cook book, but it’s been a slow learning process.
Currently I am doing green juices twice a day, nuts (walnuts, pistachios, macadamia), 3 eggs, wild fish (salmon, mahi or cod). I try to have an avocado every day – but some days I don’t have one ready. The only item I am still eating from the “do not list” is oats – little though. Sometimes I blend unsweetened almond milk, banana and oats (2 tbs) – I feel like the oats make it last longer. I have blueberries and/or blackberries almost every day. It’s been about a month that I have not eaten any chicken, I have been buying almost everything organic, no processed foods in general, no fast food at all. (Needless to say: no alcohol, no ice cream, no corn, no soy, no smoking, no drugs – and no prescription drugs either.) My point is that I have been quite healthy for many years and very healthy for about four months.
About probiotics: I’ve just started with the ProBrainBiotics. I used another brand before. I don’t like cultured foods, but I have a prebiotic blend that I am actually not taking because I though that my fiber intake is enough thru greens.
My questions to you:
1. Considering I am trying to stick to protein, veggies and fats, is it OK to include quinoa? I know quinoa is a seed, not a grain… (Sorry, this info must be somewhere, but I haven’t found it yet.)
2. What if I take CLA only after a good cardio work out? I know it is supposed to take effect only if associated with exercise.
3. Sometimes I am hungry right before it’s time to go the gym (5pm on weekdays). I eat something small, normally blackberries and nuts or the banana shake mentioned above. Do you have any suggestion?

1. Yes, quinoa is great to include in a balanced diet. Aim for 1/2 cup serving.
2. If you have a quality CLA source, it is best taken 30 minutes prior to or with meals 2-3x/day. Exercise is an important component to overall health, and helps to contribute to a healthy body composition with or without the use of CLA.
3. A small plant based protein powder smoothie with berries is great. You might also try almond butter with apple slices or celery. 🙂
