Gut Probiotics for Children

My daughter had severe pneumonia in 2014 and was in intensive care for two weeks She was treated with antibiotics. Since then she has had a few episodes of chest infections. Each have been treated with antibiotics which have kept her safe.
But, I want to replenish her gut bacteria daily and wondered if there is a specific supplement for children. She is 6 years old. We are in the UK, and at the moment she drinks Actimel which is a milk drink by Danone which contains Lactobacillus casei.
Is this sufficient or should she be on something else, either as a replacement or in addition to.
Kids aren’t the greatest at taking tablets, is there any other supplement I can use which is child friendly.
Thanks

Great question! For both kids and adults, getting a variety of strains of probiotics is important, so you will probably want to supplement in addition to the active cultures in the yogurt. There are many high quality chewable versions available for children. Some brands relatively easy to find are Jarrow, Garden of Life and Rainbow Light children’s probiotics. These can be taken daily, and if antibiotics have to be taken again, take the probiotics 3-4 hours away from the antibiotics for best efficacy. Best! -Coach Zoe
