I had lab testing this am and want to know if the numbers are not within the range given for example if testosterone is low how should this be prescribed?   If female should it be a combination of estrogen, etc bioidentical?   Should this be done by an endocrinologist?  Thank you

Yes, an endocrinologist is typically the type of physician who works with hormone imbalances. However, you may want to consult with an integrative physician as well. -Coach Zoe

What kind of physician is an integrative physician?

An integrative physician is more systems oriented in their addressing of health concerns. They are nutritionally informed, use supplements in addition to medications, and consider best ways to increase health in the whole person (body, mind, and spirit), not just treat the symptoms they are presented.

Coach Zoe-  Do they have enough training to give the exact amount of testosterone and estrogen?  I like the idea of integrative but I worry that they may have had less training because they studied everything instead of a target issue.  I would go to this type of Doctor as a PCP but like my PCP I would not go to her for a kidney issue.
Your opinion on the hormone issue because if you prescribe to much it can be as bad if not worse than not enough.  Thanks for your time.

Absolutely. There are hormone specialists who are also integrative or functional medicine practitioners. It is basically a philosophy of care, and they can have a specialty of care such as hormone therapy. We have an integrative medicine doctor at our Southern California clinic, Dr. Mark Filidei, so you could call and have a consult with him as a starting point. You can also check your local area for integrative or functional medicine doctors who specialize in hormone therapy. Hope that helps! -Coach Zoe

Coach Zoe:  I am waiting for my numbers right now —  so yes I may consult with him once I have them.  Do I just call and ask for a phone consult?   Thank you for all the information.

Yes, he can do either video or phone consults, whichever you prefer. Best to you. 🙂
