Hi, I struggle with self hatred.
Exercising, Eating right and, killing the “ants” has changed my life in a big way. I can’t seem to get rid of the self hatred though, and I am not even sure when it started. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.

are you telling yourself things which Dr. amen calls ANTS? What form does it take? Perhaps meditation will help you connect with something bigger. I have a hard time getting myself to meditate but it does work. Best wishes to you for changing your life. It is a process that goes on for a long time I have found.

Thanks for reaching out about this. Strong negative feelings towards ourselves can be complex both in origin and in finding the best methods for shifting them. A few suggestions:
1) Surround yourself with people who make you feel good about yourself. When we have a good community of friends and family who see and appreciate our unique goodness, we tend to see more of it for ourselves too. Equally important, limit contact with those who are overly critical, or with whom you feel negatively about yourself.
2) Do something regularly (in work or volunteering or creative endeavors) that gives you a sense of purpose and contribution to the world. Seeing our impact, even in small ways, can help to increase our positive feelings about ourselves.
3) Talk to a counselor or therapist who can address self-hatred if this is a chronic struggle for you, or if it is something that continues to persist.
Best to you! -Coach Zoe

Thank you Coach Zoe for the good suggestions the volunteering is something that I’ve wanted to do for a while now and I probably should talk to a therapist about this too. I really appreciate the advice.

self hatred is such a painful thing- I do think counselling is a good idea if you can do it.  When we have spent years internalizing negative influences of unhealthy parenting toxic relationships it can take a professional to help.  Affirmations are helpful too, and all the other brain fit life exercises.

Thanks, Brennie,
I think you are right about the counseling. finding the right counselor is hard though.
