Are there risks involved in doing scans on children?  My niece lives near Reston and has two boys; the younger one (8) often has rather violent outbreaks; both boys, unfortunately, play all sports including tackle football, soccer and downhill skiing. I’m just in the process of informing my niece about Dr. Amen’s work and am unsure what the pros and cons are of having a young boy scanned, would rather ask here before I broach the topic with my niece (who is not particularly open to such ideas). I know that some substance is given to those scanned: what effects do this process have on the person being scanned? Thank you for any information you can give on this topic.

The risks are minimal. I scanned my kids when they were younger and my granddaughter at 10 months.  The hardest part of the scan is a tiny needle in a vein in their arms.  They do get some radiation, but it is a normal, medical amount.
