Belly bloating

I am quite thin, with my BMI being 20.  My doctor recently told me not to lose any weight as I am quite thin.  I eat very well, sugar-free and gluten-free, and eat about 5 cups of veggies/.day.  I drink lots of water.  But whenever I eat my belly bloats and I don’t feel well.  My belly is always a little larger than I believe it should be with my weight being what it is.  I had Candida and still take probiotics, and wonder if I might take too much which could cause the belly problem.  I was also recently told that I have low THS, and I am also wondering if this could be a cause. I would value feedback.

I have been struggling with similar issues for a few years. I have done a great cleanse for the past few years (usually once a year) to help me identify any issues that I can’t detect unless I eliminate them from my diet and then add them back in slowly over time to identify if I am sensitive to them. I have found that dairy and sugar are huge culprits, but I also have found not all vegetables are the same. I stay away from nightshade vegetables, such as peppers, eggplants, potatoes and tomatoes.  There are also some berries that fall into this category too. They tend to be a culprit with inflammation for me.  Hope this helps!

THank you for sharing your experience, Matthew.  I have had similar experiences.  I am very mindful of my diet.  Like you I avoid nightshade veggies, and some berries.  I find that blueberries seem to be fine, so I stick to those.  I am seeing my naturopathic doctor tomorrow, and I am hopeful she will have some answers.

Belly bloat can often be the result of an imbalance in gut flora, and certainly candida may be at play. I’m glad to hear you are going to your ND for some guidance. The variety of strands of probiotics could also be a factor, as could food allergies, or poor food combining. If you are having trouble keeping on weight, absorption issues (which can be caused from all of those things I just mentioned) may be another culprit. Keep us posted on your progress!
