Deep Limbic System

I just got the deck of cards based on the Amen book: Change your Brain, Change your life.  I’ve read the book too – but somehow these small cards allow me to take smaller “bites” and absorb it better.  I’m pretty sure my brain’s biggest struggle is in the deep limbic system.  I struggle with moods and negativity.  My brain assessment shows I’ve got a balanced brain  – guess I struggle in all areas.  Is plan to focus on the biggest problem first?  Ack!  I see so many issues I face regularly in the descriptions.

Yes, the most impactful areas should be addressed first. Follow the guidelines on your Dashboard Page for knowing which exercises would be best for you. If mood instability is your biggest challenge, working on balancing blood sugar with a sound diet, getting adequate and good quality sleep, and having stress relieving and social activities as part of your day are all good places to start. Additionally, many aspects of mood can also be aided by the right supplements. Check out your comprehensive report for details about all of this, and then just start with where you feel the most pull or motivation. Step by step you will begin to incorporate more elements to your brain fit life. Happy you are here with us!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.  Learning about one’s brain opens the door to choices that can help to improve one’s brain, I believe.  I wish you all the best on your ongoing journey.  You might try reading Rick Hanson’s book Hardwiring Happiness.  It tells  one how to get rid of the negativity bias.

Thanks Zoe.  Wow – I’ve had a huge dip in optimism – feel like I just don’t care about anything.  I’ve been the heroine locally with the Daniel Plan group I’m leading – increasing my optimism, energy and reducing my “endless loops of brain torture (ANTS).  Making good gradual changes in food.  And then WHAM – this last week has just been terrible.
Reading now about this limbic system – because gosh – I have a week now of feeling like I’d rather go hibernate somewhere. I think important thing is to STAY WITH IT.  For me faith is a huge component – but a group member asked me to look again at my habits.  Have I fallen off any.  Aha!  My steps have greatly declined on my fitbit.   And!  I stopped taking my Amen brain supplements – the packets – I’ve been taking since I started.  No idea how I dropped the latter habit – but taking today.  I know money is tight and I was trying to stretch out my supply – but no way do I want to STOP.  Other than the brain and health combo package – is there any other supplement you’d recommend for someone in my position?  Its probably in the Change Your Brain book – I’ve not reached that part yet – looking to see if there is a quick answer and then will check to see if I can afford this week to purchase.  Won’t revisit my ANTS around money here.  I shall march on – not quitting or giving up on myself, my brain health, and my overall health.  It is important and so central to all the other symptoms I struggle with.

Oh, sorry to hear about your dip, Dhambley, but great that you are reaching out and “staying with it”! You might consider Serotonin Mood Support in addition for help with motivation and positive mood. It’s a great addition to your other brain supplements. And if you haven’t already, I would suggest getting your numbers checked (see Know My Numbers) to know if you have any underlying conditions that need support, such as low vitamin D levels, or hormone imbalances. We can learn a lot from the times we aren’t feeling our best, so keep up the compassionate self care. It is no small thing!

My doctor has ordered the tests.  Now I need to find $40 to go in and get the blood drawn and get test results.  Yes, I need better decisions.  This is me – trudging on toward hopefully improved brain health so I know the foundations are there to build on.  Looking at costs of additional supplements – I’m going to return to taking the brain and health combo back on full dosage and repair those habits I’ve dropped off doing (the daily journal here, walking to get my steps).

Thanks also Teedle for the book recommendation.  Yes I’ve read it as I have others – Dr. Amen and his team are central to my approach now.  All my family members suffer from similar issues and I feel like I’m on the cutting edge of healthful resolution.  I recently got a library card – will have to see if what books are available for lending as I’m not buying books these days.

Yes, I’m whining a little.  This too will pass.  I’m so grateful for this program, the supplements and the team of people supporting it!  And the Daniel Plan program ties in perfectly for me.  Ha – wondering if you guys should have a solution for pouting and temper tantrums.

Watch the Brain Warrior’s Way Live Class too each week for new knowledge and encouragement.

ok yes – I can’t attend live this week because I have this house sitting commitment (and I finish work at 5:30 pm) but will go and watch it (not-live).  The class is GREAT.  Much I have heard before, but it is good to review the basics and build on a strong foundation I think.  Plus, I am forgetful – so tend to remember the more repetition I can get.  I can’t get blood tested this week though.    You know, I’m feeling better – the interaction and support.  Took my supplements, walked at lunch, did read more specific stuff about ANTS from the deck of cards I now have. I have negative thinking ants and always/never thinking.   Optimism creeping back in.
