So many people dread the idea of going to a gym for exercise, and you don’t have to! Making exercise sustainable by being enjoyable, is the key to keeping up with it for a lifetime! There are so many ways to integrate movement into your life!  Some of my favorites are:

  • Hiking: I like to find beautiful, shaded trails with lots of steep hills to get my heart pumping!
  • Dancing: Dance parties can happen spontaneously and get the whole family moving!
  • Playing chase: The sprinting is a natural interval trainer!
  • Swimming: Playing with the kids AND doing some laps is a great combo!
  • Rowing/Kayaking: Meditative and quiet, great exercise for the arms and for calming the mind
  • Trail Running: Built in hills for interval training, and fresh air!

What are some of your favorite ways to integrate movement into a fun, healthy, brain fit life? Share them with us!

Hiking and taking my dog to the park. This is great, you reminded me I haven’t been hiking for a month.

Walking my dog every morning, rain or shine is my joy!  “We” watch the sunrise and absorb the early morning energy…like no other energy imaginable!  (I think she enjoys sniffing for ducks and birds more….”
In the afternoons I go out with her in our yard or at a dog park and kick a ball around and we play soccer together.  I am far away from our grandkids, and the neighbor kids are mostly inside, so my dog is my companion for most of my activities.
I also have a permanent yoga mat set up in our guest room, so I can do yoga every few days.  It’s also a place for doing my regular Physical Therapy exercises and the Tana workouts.
On weekends my husband and I try to go to the beach for a walk and again let our dog play in the waves.
These are precious pieces of my everyday life!

we had a really late fall that sustained warm weather into November which is really unusual for MN but have taken advantage of nice weather by taking my dog to the off leash dog park near where I live.  my dog really needs to walk and run each day is optimal for her and I try to at least take 1 or 2 short walks with her every day. I’ve lately since not working and having the same amount of exercise from work have gotten back into walking at my nearby shopping mall many do this at 9am till 10am when the shops open. Its a good way for me to get exercise. afterward i feel so much better, and know Ive done something good for myself again.

That’s terrific, and with the season of shopping upon us, this is a great reminder of how we can build in exercise even with the busy-ness of this time of year!
