My Brain on Electronics

Here’s a personal observation that I would like to share: I typically have a ‘messy’ way of going about my day, which over time affects my brain health.  In the morning I wake up and I check my emails, go on Facebook, see the latest news on CNN.com etc..  Throughout the entire day I constantly check emails on my phone.  When I sit down at the dinner table I watch YouTube videos on my computer.  If I’m with a friend(which is rare) and a topic of interest comes up I’ll Google the subject as we speak.  In between flights I’ll check the latest Dow Jones numbers, recent Donald Trump shenanigans, the 12 foods you must avoid, actors from the 1980’s and where they are now etc. etc.  At night I again go to YouTube and watch random videos that are suggested and/or of interest to me until the wee hours of the morning.  I’ve personally found that this type of behaviour (or ‘behavior’ for American readers) is quite taxing on my mind.  On the other hand when I consciously choose to schedule a set time and duration to go on the Internet and check emails I don’t randomly go from one website to another, I get more done during the day, my mind doesn’t feel ‘stuffy’ and at the end of the week I’m not as exhausted like I often do.  Just my observation.

@DeWalt I set time limits for myself too. I try to limit as much as possible Tv and News channels. Every time i tune into news channel it’s usually something negative, I’m doing my best to stay away from that. I try to do word puzzles instead of tv time.

You’re very correct on the need to avoid negativity.  A few years ago I got myself enmired in very negative videos (ie. Peak oil, the economy and the next ‘big crash’, the petrodollar etc.)  I was watching, or more accurately ‘binging’ on, these videos under the pretext of keeping myself informed.  It started affecting my mood and outlook on life.  Perhaps I was giving off some ‘vibes’ and others seemed demoralized around me.  Not worth it!

I agree with you, It makes us look at life in a negative manner and I didn’t like that.

I would like to recommend Dr. Amen’s guided meditation the last one on the menu,26 minutes, on Focus etc.
He asks you there to focus on what you want. A very good message.
I have a type one brain and am easily distracted and like to go from one thing to another before I finish the task. I am now noticing when I do it and can tell myself to just finish making the bed or whatever.
I can relate to what you are doing as many of us in America are new junkies. I could be too.

I just might look into the guided meditation thing.
